MISSISSIPPI SCHOLARS
Mississippi Scholars is an effort by area business and school volunteers to encourage students to complete challenging courses during high school that will prepare them for jobs or higher education after graduation. The following students meet the criteria for recognition as a 2022 Mississippi Scholar. These students have taken a challenging course of study, maintained a 2.5 GPA or higher, minimum 19 ACT Score and completed a minimum of 80 hours of community service.

STAR STUDENT and STAR TEACHER AWARD
The Star Student is selected from the seniors having the highest score on the American College Test (ACT) by the December exam date. This year’s STAR student is Carson Weeks. He scored a 35 on his ACT.
The Star Student was asked to select a Star Teacher, who, in the student’s opinion, made the greatest contribution to his scholastic achievement. Carson Weeks selected Polly Johnson as this year’s STAR Teacher.
MU ALPHA THETA AWARD
Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school mathematics honor society with minimum requirements for membership including: a “B” average in 4 or more semesters of college preparatory math; and enrollment in an even more advanced math course. This award goes to the senior taking the highest level of mathematics and maintaining the highest average in mathematics for four years. This year’s recipient is George Davis.
PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP AWARD
The National Association of Secondary Principals recognizes a senior student leader in the top 20% of the class who has demonstrated leadership. This year’s recipient is Jaleah Walker.
SUPERINTENDENT’S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The Superintendent’s Award of Excellence honors a student who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, commitment to school programs and multiple community service projects. This year’s recipient is George Davis.

Mrs. Cole is a hardworking and dedicated teacher with 16 years of teaching experience. Mrs. Cole teaches IGCSE Math II, Pure Math, College Algebra, and College Trigonometry. She is also sponsor for the Key Club, co-sponsor of the Academic Team, and in charge of the CHS Beauty Review.
DAR GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD
This award is given to one senior for outstanding citizenship and character necessary for tomorrow’s citizens. This award is selected by a vote of the faculty and the senior class members. This year’s recipient is Gregory Spencer.

A $1000 scholarship is presented to seniors based on financial need, leadership, and a desire to receive higher education. The winners are Ania Ambrocio, Callie Burns, Aidan Mills, and Belle Mitchell.
HAROLD WESSON SCHOLARSHIP
The Harold Wesson Scholarship was formed by the Elite Group. This scholarship of $1000 goes to a senior athlete who is a team player and leads by example. The student athlete should be courteous and respectful of others and maintain a “B” average in academics. The winner of this scholarship is Gregory Spencer.
TOM TIMMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
This scholarship is given in memory of Tom Timms.

An endowment fund was established to honor Dr. O. Wayne Gann, superintendent of the Corinth School District from 1974-2001. The winner of a $500 scholarship based on being a diligent student with financial need and good citizenship is Andrew Ayala.
ORMA R. SMITH, JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Orma R. Smith, Jr. “Sammy” graduated from Corinth High School in 1953. He was an active student; a kicker and tackle on the football team; and a member of the band. He loved Corinth and loved the Warriors! Upon graduation, he attended the University of Mississippi. After college graduation, Sammy attended law school at the University of Mississippi. Once a lawyer, Sammy returned to Corinth to practice law with his father, Hack Smith. Sammy married Nancy Fant of Holly Springs and they had 5 children who were all Corinth Warriors. The Orma R. Smith, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is a $1000 scholarship that goes to Jaleah Walker.
MARTHA JANICE BIGGERS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Martha Janice Biggers graduated from Mississippi State College for Women at Columbus in 1929. After graduation, she embarked on a long and distinguished teaching career. Family members of Martha Janice Biggers are pleased indeed to honor her by establishing the Martha Janice Biggers Endowed Scholarship. This annual scholarship will provide a graduating senior $500 for college. The recipient is Kevin Posadas.
